# Prefix commands

> Run commands by typing a prefix such as g! instead of using the slash menu.

Most commands can also be typed with your server's **prefix**. The default prefix is `g!`, and a server can have several.

```text Slash theme={"system"}
/gend giveaway_id:123456789012345678
```

```text Prefix theme={"system"}
g!gend 123456789012345678
```

## Writing options

**1. Use flags for options**

Write `--option=value`. For true/false options, just writing `--option` means true.

```text theme={"system"}
g!gstart --duration=1d --winners=2 --prize=Nitro
```

**2. Or just type the main value**

For some options you can type the first value straight after the command, for example a giveaway ID, a user, an emoji, a color or a language. Giveaway commands accept a **message ID** or a **message link**.

**3. Subcommands go first**

For commands with subcommands, write the subcommand right after the command name.

```text theme={"system"}
g!gschedule list
```

> [!TIP]
>
> Reply to a message when you run a command and the bot uses that message as the target.

## Permissions

Prefix commands follow the **same rules** as slash commands. For giveaway management you need Administrator, Manage Server or a Giveaway Manager role. See [Permissions](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/concepts/permissions.md).

## Aliases without a prefix

If your server added [aliases](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/features/command-customization.md), they can be typed with **no prefix** as the **first word** of a message. They only work for aliases your server created.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If a command is blocked in a channel or for a role by your server, the bot tells you it is unavailable there.
