# AFK status

> Let people know you are away, and catch up on what you missed.

Going away? Run `/afk`. When someone mentions you, the bot tells them you are AFK and why.

**reason** `text`

An optional reason, up to 200 characters.

**global** `true / false`

Make your AFK status work in **every server** you share with the bot. Default: false.

## How it behaves

> Mentions are grouped into a **single tidy message** instead of one reply per mention.

> A short cooldown stops the bot from repeating itself if you are mentioned over and over.

> Mentioning **yourself** does not trigger your own AFK notice.

With a **global** AFK, the bot also keeps a record of who mentioned you (server, channel, a link to the message and a short snippet), so you can catch up when you return.

> Use a clear reason like `afk: back in 2 hours` so people know when to expect a reply.
