# Creating giveaways

> Start a giveaway with /gcreate or /gstart and learn what every option does.

You can create a giveaway in two ways. Both end up in the same place, so every limit, permission check and default applies to both.

> One command with all options. Best when you know exactly what you want.

## /gcreate: the quick form

`/gcreate` opens a form with:

1. **Prize**
2. **Duration** (see [Durations](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/concepts/durations.md))
3. **Winners**
4. **Prize image** (optional upload, up to 8 MB)
5. **What happens next?** Choose **Publish now** to post straight away with your server defaults, or **Customize in Studio** to fine-tune first.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If something is wrong (for example an invalid duration), you get a private message with an **Edit and Try Again** button. Everything you typed is kept, and the form stays valid for 15 minutes.

## /gstart: every option

All options are optional. If a duration or prize is still missing after your template and defaults are applied, the bot asks for it.

### Basics

**duration** `text`

How long the giveaway runs, like `1d` or `2h`.

**winners** `number`

How many winners.

**prize** `text`

What is being given away.

**template** `text`

Start from a saved [template](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/giveaways/templates.md). Anything you type overrides it.

**channel** `channel`

Where to post. Text, announcement and thread channels work.

**host** `user`

Who is shown as the host.

**description** `text`

Extra text shown on the giveaway.

**image** `file`

Main image.

**thumbnail** `file`

Small image shown beside the text.

**giveaway\_create\_message** `text`

A custom message sent when the giveaway starts.

### Requirements

**required\_roles** `roles`

Roles members need to enter.

**requirement\_bypass\_roles** `roles`

Roles that skip the requirements.

**blacklist\_roles** `roles`

Roles that cannot enter.

**joined\_age** `number`

Minimum days in the server.

**account\_age** `number`

Minimum Discord account age in days.

**required\_messages** `number`

Messages a member must have sent.

**required\_level** `number`

Minimum [level](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/features/leveling.md) (at least 1).

**required\_official\_tag** `true / false`

Members must display your server's official tag. The server must have one.

### Rewards and extras

**winners\_roles** `roles`

Roles given to the winners.

**extra\_entries** `text`

Bonus entries for roles, for example `@Booster 3`. See [Bonus entries](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/giveaways/bonus-entries.md).

**max\_entries** `number (1 to 10)`

The most extra entries a member can earn from voting.

**auto\_claim** `true / false`

Winners claim with one button, and unclaimed prizes are rerolled automatically.

**repeat** `number`

Repeat the giveaway this many times. Tier 1

**sticky** `true / false`

Automatically re-send the giveaway. Tier 2

> You need Administrator, Manage Server or a Giveaway Manager role. The bot also checks it can see and post in the target channel, and add reactions for reaction giveaways.

## Examples

## Limits

Duration, winner count and repeat count depend on your [Premium tier](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/concepts/premium.md). If you go over, the bot tells you exactly which limit applies.
