# Winners, claims and rerolls

> What happens when a giveaway ends: DMs, threads, roles, auto-claim and rerolling.

## When a giveaway ends

The bot draws winners from the entries (weighted by [bonus entries](https://docs.giveawayx.lol/giveaways/bonus-entries.md)) and updates the giveaway message. Then, depending on your settings, it can:

> **DM the winners and host**
>
> Private notifications, switchable in `/settings`.

> **Open a winner thread**
>
> A place for winners to claim and talk to the host.

> **Give winner roles**
>
> Automatically, with optional delay and duration.

> **Start auto-claim**
>
> One-button claiming with automatic rerolls.

## Winner DMs

Winner and host DMs can be switched on or off separately, and there is also a **global DM** switch. With Tier 1 you can write your own DM messages. A single giveaway can also override the DM message.

## Winner threads

When enabled, the bot creates a thread for the winners after the giveaway.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Auto thread | Turns thread creation on or off. |
| Visibility | **Public** or **Private** thread. |
| Auto-close | How long until the thread closes. |
| Claim tracker | Tracks who has claimed (on by default). |
| Ping winners | Mentions the winners in the thread. |
| Claim deadline | How long winners have to claim. |
| Name, message and color | Customize the thread. Tier 1 |

A single giveaway can override the thread settings.

## Winner roles

Give winners a role automatically. Each **winner role rule** can set:

| Option | Description |
| - | - |
| Role | The role to give. |
| Reward | Nothing extra, bonus **XP**, or bonus **levels**. |
| Delay | Give it after some minutes, or at a set time. |
| Duration | Permanent, or removed after some minutes. |
| Rotate | Remove the role from earlier winners so only the newest hold it. |

Basic winner roles are free. Advanced options need Tier 2.

## Auto-claim

Turn on `auto_claim` and winners claim their prize with **one button**. If a winner does not claim in time, the bot automatically **rerolls** their place.

| Setting | Default | Allowed range |
| - | - | - |
| Claim window | 24 hours | 60 seconds to 30 days |
| Maximum rerolls | Unlimited | 0 or more |

## Rerolling with /greroll

`/greroll` redraws winners from an **ended** giveaway. It shows a **preview** of exactly what will change before anything happens.

**giveaway\_id** `text`

Pick the giveaway from the list, or paste a message ID or message link.

**replace** `user`

Replace **only this winner**, for example someone who never claimed. Everyone else keeps their win.

**count** `number`

Draw this many new winners. This **replaces the whole winner list**.

**exclude\_previous\_winners** `true / false`

Never pick someone who already won. On by default.

> [!WARNING]
>
> You cannot reroll a giveaway that is still running, paused or scheduled, or a drop. If nobody eligible is left, the reroll is refused and the bot explains why.

The bot remembers how many times a giveaway was rerolled and who did it, which also shows in the giveaway log.

## Winner cooldown

Your server can set a **winner cooldown** in minutes (off by default) so recent winners cannot win again too soon. Each giveaway can follow the server, turn it off, or use its own number of minutes.
